Amusing Ourselves to Death by Neil Postman Highly critical look at our entertainment culture, and especially at the negative effects of the television medium, not necessarily the content one finds on TV. Not necessarily from a Christian point of view.
Culture Shift by David W. Henderson Offers a Biblical critique of the various attitudes and views that dominate our culture. Features a helpful glossary at the end of each chapter, and a lengthy list of suggested reading for further study.
Engaging God's World by Cornelius Plantinga Jr. Encourages Christian students to fully engage their world, but through the lens of a fully-orbed Biblical worldview. A good tool for any student getting ready for the challenges of college.
The Gnostic Empire Strikes Back by Peter Jones Makes the case that the current New Age movement is actually rooted in an ancient heresy called gnosticism.
Political Visions & Illusions by David T. Koyzis OK, this one is pretty academic, I admit, but the premise is fascinating: Koyzis critiques the major ideologies (liberalism, conservatism, nationalism, democracy, and socialism) and shows how they are all, to some extent, rooted in a kind of idolatry. In this book, Koyzis does exactly what Pearcey urges us to do in Total Truth - apply a Christian worldview to all of life, even political theory.
Postmodern Times by Gene Edward Veith Jr. Explains the difference between modernism and postmodernism, and makes the case that we are now living in a postmodern world, which has significant implications for the Christian worldview.
Total Truth by Nancy Pearcey Pearcey, a graduate of Covenant Seminary, begins by explaining the importance of developing a Christian worldview, and then gives examples of how to evaluate non-Christian worldviews through a Biblical framework. Significant time is spent on the doctrine of creation and the influence of Darwinism in our culture. Fairly long, but clear and easy to read.
When the Kings Come Marching In by Richard J. Mouw Fascinating analysis of how our cultural accomplishments in this world will somehow enhance the next, based on Is. 65 and the Bible's teaching about the new earth.
The World According to God by Greg Johnson An application of the Biblical worldview to all aspects of life.
